GYCA Local Gatherings: World AIDS Day 2008

WORLD AIDS DAY 2008

World AIDS Day is held on December 1st of every year to commemorate the long struggle against the global spread of HIV and AIDS and to raise awareness about what activists are doing today to ensure that the needs of all people affected by HIV and AIDS are fully met. This year marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day.

Each year, a new theme is chosen by the World AIDS Campaign (WAC) to usher in World AIDS Day and to address the current issues surrounding the global movement to stop HIV and AIDS. This year’s theme, leadership, is an extension of last year’s and builds on the 2006 theme of accountability, in which activists were asked to make specific commitments to stop HIV and AIDS. It is now time to take responsibility for those commitments, and for activists to take the lead in stopping HIV and AIDS around them!

To help get spread the word about World AIDS Day, WAC has created downloadable posters and postcards to print and distribute. Additionally, WAC has put together a special toolkit of two posters and four postcards available to receive by mail free of charge! The toolkit and individual posters and postcards are available in English, French, Portuguese, and Russian. Click here to find out how you can download materials and order your own toolkit.
